Last week, I had the absolute joy of throwing a surprise disco at Family Week at Bendrigg – and what made it even better was finding out my good friends Eva and Lewis were there too!
It all came together pretty last-minute, but the energy on the night was electric. Lights, videos, beats – and everyone dancing like no one was watching. What more could a DJ ask for?
After the event, I got this message from Holly, the course director, and it completely made my day:
"Just to let you know a lot of people said that the disco and your DJing was the highlight of their week!! So well done, you smashed it!"
That would’ve been enough, but then this email from Sally, one of the parents, landed in my inbox – and I honestly had to stop and take it in:
“Dear DJ Oli,
You were the DJ at the Bendrigg disco this Thursday. I was one of the parents there and my son Eddie was the tall guy who was dancing the whole time.
It was the best disco I have ever been to and going there was the joy of Eddie’s life. He said it was the highlight of his holidays. Eddie loves to dance but discos are often inaccessible to him. He feels self-conscious and has nobody who wants to dance with him. He was so happy to be there with your great music and lighting and the videos helped too.
So thank you, Oli! I hope we get to dance at one of your events again very soon!”
And then – just when I thought it couldn’t get better – I got this message from Eddie himself:
“Hi Oli (or DJ Oli, if you prefer),
It's Eddie. Not long ago, you saw me at Bendrigg for the disco they had that Thursday evening. I hope you enjoyed it – I certainly did!
Any disco, nightclub or party is the perfect chance to see me doing what you'd never see me doing elsewhere!
I just thought I'd message to see how you are, wish you all the best for all events to come and I hope you have fun!”
Eddie – I see you, and I feel the love. And I hope we dance together again very soon!
Nights like that are why I do what I do. Music brings people together. And when the vibe is right, everyone belongs on the dancefloor.
Big love to Bendrigg.
Until next time,
DJ OLI
